She bit back a groan, quickly changing to the auxiliary channel and brought up the recordings on the hard drive. A wireless keyboard was stowed on a shelf below the TV. She asked Shea more about the nursery to cover the clack of her fingers on the keys.

Shea took the hint and began to talk, but Embry barely heard her as she started the recording, though she couldn’t say what she hoped to find there. Proof she wasn’t crazy or in the grip of some psychiatric syndrome maybe?

Shea’s voice flowed around Embry as she concentrated on reviewing the footage.

They watched the five men enter the bank, unmasked and unarmed. As Clarence had suggested, Rainey disappeared from on camera for a second near the stuffed Grizzly. Just as in her memory, the robbery proceeded at a lightning pace, but there was an odd hitch in the first few seconds. Con was forced to run to Rainey’s position. Why? He should have been on the man’s hip, ready to distribute the weapons. For a brief second Rainey’s AR-15 seemed to be pointed not at the tellers, but at Con.

She backed up, going over the footage frame by frame, concentrating so hard she had to remind herself to breathe.

“What are you searching for?” Shea mouthed.

Embry sent her a pointed look. Her friend sighed, made a face, and started talking about who had given her what for the baby.
